Philippines Island Hopping

I have several posts to catch you up on but wanted to discuss some of the Philippines islands that I have been dreaming about.  I simply can’t stop thinking about heading there and doing a real bucket list vacation, with a stop in Manila first. I think I would choose between Palawan and Boracay, even though there is no shortage of islands or resorts in this area.  Boracay was voted CN Traveller‘s top island getaway by its readers but I’ve always wanted to do Palawan as well.  Both have several luxury resorts. I’ve heard Palawan is much more tranquil, with several deserted beaches, and almost no nightlife.   Alex Garland wrote The Beach while living in El Nido (Palawan), but set it in Thailand to throw seekers off.

Bocaray has the stunning beaches but more restaurants and nightlife although you can’t tell from the picture below.

To be honest, there are SO many little islands all in the archipelago it is a little dizzying to figure out where to stay and which island to go to.  It seems like one of the best places to stay is Amanpulo, part of the Aman hotel group, and Aman of course knocks it out of the park.

Another seemingly amazing place to stay in Boracay is the Shangri-la hotel.  I love the bar, the pool and the rooms.

The El Nido resort group seems to have several small luxury hotels in various smaller islands in the archipelago.  They all look breathtaking but I was taken with the Miniloc island below.

I’ll keep dreaming about this trip and let me know if you’ve ever been to one of these amazing islands.
